Amber Ridge – Howick KZN
Most of the Amber Valley and Amber Ridge residents will know that Dr Armstrong, the Amber Ridge developer, undertook to build a Community Facility for the Amber Ridge Body Corporate. This facility represents the Amber Ridge contribution to the concept of the “Greater Ambers”, and is a facility shared by Amber Ridge, Amber Valley, Amber Lakes and ultimately Amber Lee once complete.
The original plan included an auditorium, a day clinic, twenty frail care rooms and some peripherals. The Amber Ridge Body Corporate asked Dr Armstrong to consider building Assisted Living Units (ALUs) instead of further Frail Care facilities. ALUs were considered to be in greater demand than frail care facilities. Dr Armstrong agreed to this request and had the plans redrawn in order to provide ALUs. He also generously agreed to increase the size of the auditorium.
The west end of the building now includes a 350 seater auditorium with separate bar area, and an 80 seater functions room. The auditorium has a suspended acoustic ceiling and a substantial stage area. It also boasts audiovisual facilities, sophisticated stage lighting and high quality sound system. The auditorium opens out on to a large covered patio which overlooks Crane dam.
